Why I Trashed the Trophies…
Rethinking Success in Youth Activities
The Webinar
In this thought-provoking webinar, we’ll challenge the traditional notions of success in youth activities, aiming to combat the toxic achievement culture that often pressures students to prioritize outcomes over well-being. The session will focus on rethinking what success really means in extracurriculars, highlighting the importance of mental health, personal growth, and balance over external rewards.
We'll explore how to shift the narrative from a “win-at-all-costs” mentality to one that values effort, learning, and resilience. With practical strategies, we’ll discuss how to implement healthier, safer, and more sustainable approaches for students to thrive, without compromising their well-being. Join us for a conversation about creating environments where achievement is measured not by trophies, but by personal development, meaningful connections, and long-term success.

About Chasta Hamilton
Nearly a decade ago, Chasta made the bold decision to extract her dance studios from competitive dance culture while keeping the dancers competitive in technique, performance, community, and character. She felt this would strengthen their community and intrinsic motivation; therefore, providing a more competitive foundation for future success, onstage and off. It proved to be true, and her 3 books (Trash the Trophies, Handle the Horrible, and The Trophy Trap) all focus on this journey.
Since then, she's specialized in reconceptualizing the infrastructure and return on investment of competitive youth activities while also consulting corporations on creative, winning cultures. She's on a mission to help parents understand the extracurricular infrastructure so they can advocate and make decisions in the best interest of their child alongside youth extracurricular leaders, coaches, and instructors.
